Some days the reality of our upcoming move seems overwhelming, but most days I am excited for the challenge and for the new season and rhythms that God is leading us to. As we have shared before, all staff members are responsible for building their own support system financially as they join staff at VBC and while we have been blessed by so many people, we are still praying for God to lead us to the people who he has called to support us. Currently we have about 1/3 of our monthly support raised and have met the required two months of salary in reserve. As you pray for us, if you think of anyone who may be interested in supporting learning more about the ministry or supporting us, please put them in contact with us or go directly to the VBC website. It takes a whole team to make ministry happen and you are part of our team, thank you!
Now for some fun camp updates!!
- According to the numbers, 26 people attended the mother-daughter retreat last year at VBC and over 75 are signed up already this year! (Feb. 6-8)
- Spring horsemanship classes are filling up fast and there are already some waitlists forming!
- There are already over 200 campers registered for this summer.
- All four Doulos slots have been filled with church youth teams for this summer.
- Plans continue to unfurl for a new Spruce Lodge which was sadly destroyed by a fire this past fall. There is a couple lined up to interview for the temporary fulltime position of coordinating the new building.
A note of encouragement:
As we begin a new year, it has been an encouragement to me to go back to the basics and weed out what is unimportant around my home and also within my mind. There is something about packing up your entire house that reminds you to take an inventory of what matters. As I decide what toys, clothes and belongings will make the move with us, I am reminded that this life is temporary and many of the material things we own can begin to blur our view of eternity. How we steward our time and energy can often be directly related to how many “things” we own. I can’t help but think of the song from Switchfoot (If the House Burns Down Tonight) that reminds us we need to “possess your possessions or they possess you”. Does the stuff you own dominate your time, or does it work for you and remind you of the greater things that are yet to come? As Christians we should live with purpose and conviction. Christ died and rose to free us to “Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” (1 Peter 2:16) Not one of us has the power to change the past, or to act in the future, we can only live and decide in this moment who we will serve. One step and one job, one dirty dish or one keystroke at a time, now is the moment that will determine your future so use your next choice to honor God and beg him for wisdom.
